What is a ‘Lift Technician’?
Purpose & Objective:
- A lift technician is responsible in performing the tasks of properly lifting, boosting, repositioning and transferring patients safely from admission to discharge.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Uphold and adhere to department policies and procedures
- Adhere to applicable state, federal and local laws
- Utilize proper lifting techniques, proper body mechanics and observation of hospital protocol
- Utilize patient handling equipment, transfer devices and protective equipment in compliance with hospital policies and patient handling protocols
- Must be knowledgeable of lift equipment; inspecting operation and condition of all components before performing lifts
- Must be able to collaborate and work in pairs as a ‘Lift Team’ and as a function of caregiver staff
- Ability to recognize needs and concerns of patients, coworkers and physicians while maintaining a positive and communicative working relationship
- Maintain clean lift equipment, attire and workplace areas
- Maintain written logs and records, reporting any problems or issues to an Atlas supervisor
What qualifications do I need to be considered as a prospective lift technician?
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required
Certifications:
- EMT Certified
- CPR Certified
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to successfully complete physical agility test before and during employment
- Ability to successfully complete a drug screening before and during employment
- Maintain a physically fit and active lifestyle
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs minimum unassisted
- Ability to operate lift equipment
- Must be able to lift, push, pull and transport patients on daily basis
- Must be able withhold frequent bending, stooping, rotating, and squatting positions
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Good visual acuity and ability to work in teams
Other Preferred Qualifications:
- 6+ months working in a healthcare environment
- 6+ months of patient transfer experience
- General medical terminology
